About the Designer
Joy Foord grew up in a family of creatives, her mum was an avid sewer and her father was constantly creating. From a young age Joy was constantly making creative messes of everything she could get her hands on, from photography to cooking, weaving to singing, Joy searched for the creative outlet that could best express her creativity.
Joy spent many of her younger years tracing patterns for her mother on the sewing room floor and was mesmerized by her mothers ability to turn a simple piece of fabric to a piece of art.
Joy began sewing in 2009 in her home economics class at Nambour State High School and has never looked back. Despite being often asked “What are you wearing” or being told her clothes were “Interesting” or “Weird” it has never held her back from expressing her creativity.
Joy has been married to her highschool sweetheart and love of her life since Oct ‘16. They have two children, Ebb & Arthur. They lost Ebb before he was born in December ‘17 and they are excited to meet him one day in heaven. Arthur was born in October ‘18 and inspired Arte, he is a happy, extroverted & patient little boy, who loves squealing, toys & his parents.
Arte is passionate about making beautiful clothes that are high quality and ethically made. We don’t want to make another piece of stuff for your wardrobe, but beautiful artisan pieces that you will cherish throughout your life.
We believe that no one should be exploited, under payed, hurt or killed for us to wear beautiful clothes. That is why designer & seamstress Joy Foord insists that every piece of clothing is carefully inspected and sewn by her hands.
We believe in beautiful clothes for all, that is why even though these pieces are made with extensive labour and love they are priced affordably. We don’t believe in exorbitant pricing for the sake of the designer label. We do not believe we have to price clothing unreasonably to make beautiful quality clothing.
To the glory of God
Arte is founded on the knowledge that every human is made in the image of God with gifts, creativity and beauty that reflects our creator.
We believe we best glorify God by trusting in his son Jesus who offered himself as an atonement for our sins and we can be forgiven and reconciled to God if we trust in his life, death and resurrection from the dead.
Furthermore we believe we also glorify God when we use the gifts and talents that he has given to us with the best of our ability. We believe that the beauty of our work should reflect the creativity, beauty and glory of our creator.
We desire for the world to come to know the forgiveness and love that is in Christ Jesus and we hope that you seek to know the truth- because we guarantee you will only find it in Christ Jesus.
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
